POST-SUMMARY-HERE

The post of Symbian-Freak containing hot information about Nokia’s very first Touch device “Tube” (or should I say 5800?) has caused a real whirl of excitement. I saw nearly every blog writing about mobile phones covering this great information, including me.

Teo didn’t say everything he knew about the features in order to respect Nokia, but it seems like he was not the only person who got the hot information about Nokia Tube: Intomobile has published the full feature list and also the real name of “Tube” - Nokia 5800.

Nokia 5800 Tube Specifications:

  • • 3.2-inch touchscreen display with 16 Million colors
  • • 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus
  • • Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE radio
  • • 3G UMTS/HSDPA
  • • Bluetooth 2.0
  • • WiFi
  • • GPS
  • • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • • TV-out port
  • • 140MB on-board storage
  • • 111 x 52 x 14.5 mm
  • • 104g

As you can see the 5800 offers great multimedia features, but not like we no it from current Nseries flagships. As I said, the 5800 won’t be a flagship. A touch device which you can call so will be announced shortly after “Tube”.

However, especially the great high resolution screen seems to be so great. Can’t wait to see the S60 UI running on it. :)

The Touch devices will be marked as “XpressMedia”, similar to Nokia’s “XpressMusic” devices, what you can see at a little inprint at the right corner of the device.

More information about the other features like the touch control and geotagging here.

The Nokia 5800 will be shipped at the end of 2008, so maybe we will see the very first S60 device with touch control early next year.

F480 “TOCCO” By Samsung

Posted by loudfrogs On 4:15 AM 0 comments

The Samsung Tocco, also known as F480 is the first in a series of capacitive touchscreen phones hitting the market this year. The Tocco features a new and unique TOUCHWIZ UI replacing the Croix UI. The 5-megapixel camera featuring auto focus and a CMOS video lens; are normally only found in high-end or prosumer DSLR cameras. So it’s an amazing feature to have on a phone, especially when the Tocco only measures 11.6 mm thick by 98.4 mm tall and 55 mm wide. In addition to CMOS, the F480 also feature automatic face detection technology and a sophisticated image stabilizer - again, these features aren’t commonly found in a phone.

The Samsung Tocco is also one of the first phone to feature the ‘smile shot’ mode which is in itself groundbreaking. The ‘smile shot’ feature enables the Tocco’s camera to detect when your girlfriend, kids or mom is smiling and automatically take the shot. Other features include 240 MB of internal memory, a microSD card slot supporting up to 8GB, HSDPA and USB 2.0. It has a battery capacity of 1000mAh with an estimated talk time of 3 hours and 250 hours of standby.

The quick and simple ‘drag and drop’ TOUCHWIZ GUI feature gives you instant access to your favorite functions at a moment’s touch. A unique menu of widgets display functions such as the clock, radio player, music player and more personal elements including photos and birthday reminders, which you can ‘drag and drop’ onto the home screen. Samsung’s so-called “differentiated tactile technology” also gives you a “tangible and pleasing feedback sensation” when you select items on the Tocco - I’ll have to see if this haptic feedback is any better than earlier Samsung phones, which have tended to just vibrate whenever the screen is tapped.

Ericsson, one of the biggest telecoms companies in the world, has reported its second quarter results with profits down 70% on year.

Net income for the Sweden-based company - the biggest supplier of wireless networks in the world - fell to 1.9 billion crowns (£160 million) compared to 6.4 million crowns for the second quarter of 2007.

The news comes less than a week after the handset unit of the company, Sony Ericsson, reported second quarter pre-tax profits of just €8 million, compared to €327 million a year earlier.

Following the falling profits Sony Ericsson has announced plans to axe 2,000 jobs around the world in a bid to cut costs. Read Full Story Sweden-based company Ericsson Q2 profits fall 70%
